Broadway High School is a public school supported by Broadway Bakery as a development partner. After its establishment in 1996, the school needed infrastructural support and a strong school development partner to become effective as a learning institution. Based on our commitment towards uplifting the quality of life in the Kiandutu slum, we recognized that we could contribute in the slum upgrading projects by supporting the school. Broadway Bakery has since built eight classrooms for Broadway High School. In addition, it has been the main sponsor in the construction of a modern Library Block geared towards enhancing teaching standards in the school. This Library Block was opened in September 2012. While Broadway Bakery remains the main sponsor of the school, the school needs other development partners to step forward to support the education of the disadvantaged students drawn from the Kiandutu slum.
The school received the top honors in Kiswahili in the Thika District by achieving first position. It is also the reigning Thika District champion in football. In addition to these, the Environmental Club in the school won the top prize during the Kenya Climate Change Project for leading the community in disaster risk reduction in 2012 through environmental projects organized under International Climate Change projects. One particularly bright student, Ezekiel Aywa, won the National School Drama Festival in 2012.
