The Be Sugar Smart Campaign

We as Broadway Bakery are aware of the prevalent increase in lifestyle diseases in our society, which led us to carry out a survey to know more about lifestyle consumption habits of Kenyans. Hence, we embarked on a health campaign dubbed #BeSugarSmart

Community
Development

As part of the baking industry in Kenya, we pursue a triple bottom line in our activities to benefit the people, the planet and to make a profit. We have a very strong relationship with the Kiandutu Community in Thika where we have a long-term commitment to community development by supporting the Broadway High School.

We also make direct bread donations during important occasions within the Thika community and other areas around the country.

Broadway High
School

Broadway High School benefits from the CSR efforts of the Broadway Group of Companies, which is its main development partner. As part of the Group, we have participated in the construction of nine classrooms, a school library and, more recently in 2019, we commissioned a new state of the art class room block to cater for students.

Slum Upgrading
Through Education

We are committed to the local community by supporting the school, which gives an opportunity for education to the children of the Kiandutu area. We believe that education is one of the best slum upgrading projects because it empowers the locals to transform their own community.

Quality Education

Our intervention in Broadway High School aims at enhancing teaching standards in the school, by providing the teaching facilities needed to offer high quality education. While the Broadway Group of Companies remains one of the main partners in the development of the school, more development partners are needed to support its efforts.

Why Donations?

By immersing ourselves in the community and surrounding ourselves with people who are dedicated to bettering the world, we gain a unique sense of purpose by serving those around you.

Food Donation Program

As Broadway Group of Companies, we were happy to start a feeding program for the people of Matharau Slum in Thika. We committed to provide a meal to 150 elderly people and children of different ages for the full month who were struggling to put food on the table. The feeding program started on Wednesday 22nd June 2022 and ran for 30 days.

Sponsorships

We are proud to be associated with Faith Wambui Gathage who is from Komarock Primary School. Faith finished her KCPE this year and requested to be assisted in her further studies. As Broadway Group of Companies, we have promised to sponsor Faith for her further studies at Muruguru Girls Secondary School in Nyeri.

We are proud to be associated with Kelvin Mulei who is from Dandora Secondary School. Kelvin ranked No. 6 in KCSE exams countrywide this year and requested to be assisted in his further studies, hoping to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy. We as Broadway Group of Companies have promised to sponsor Kelvin in his studies at a reputable University of his choice in Kenya.

Bed Donation

The Directors of Broadway Bakery Limited and Bakex Millers Limited on 25th March 2021, donated 40 double decker beds and 80 mattresses to Tumaini Children's Home for girls and Hawa Children's Home for boys, both homes managed by the PCEA St. Andrew's Church. As a Group, we have always supported such initiatives which will benefit the less fortunate members of our society. The total value of this donation is Kshs. 650,000 and we hope it will go a long way in assisting the efforts done by the Parish and the volunteers who manage the homes.

The Directors of Broadway Bakery and Bakex Millers were represented by Mr Nishant Bhatt, Mr George Mathenge and the Broadways Bread brand ambassador, DJ MO.

Broadway Bakery Ltd pledges Kshs. 500,000 to The Brain, Spine and Rehabilitation (BSR) Hospital

Broadway Bakery Ltd has pledged Kshs. 500,000 to The Brain, Spine and Rehabilitation (BSR) Hospital, a premier center of excellence for Neurosurgery in Kenya and the East, Central and South Africa (ECSA) countries. BSR offers specialized Neurosurgery procedures for diseases of the Brain and the Spinal cord as well as Neuro rehabilitation. This pledge will be used to operate on and treat two children with Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida.

National Covid-19
Emergency Fund

Broadway Group of Companies donated a total of Kshs. 25 million towards the National Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund.

The donation was broken down as Kshs. 7.5 million and 10,000 bales of Phulka Atta Mark I Chapati Flour valued at Kshs. 12.5 million towards the National Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund, and Kshs. 5 million towards the Covid-19 Kiambu County Emergency Fund.

The donation was done in presence of H.E James Nyoro- Kiambu County Governor, Hon. Patrick Wainaina (Wa Jungle)- Member of Parliament, Thika Constituency, Hon. George Muhoho- COVID-19 Kiambu County Emergency Fund Patron, Mr. Eddy Njoroge- COVID-19 Kiambu County Emergency Fund Chairman, DEVKI Group CEO Narendra Raval- National COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund Board Member and ABSA Kenya CEO Jeremy Awori- National COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund Board Member

Bed Donation

Broadway Group of Companies donated 100 hospital beds and mattresses to Kiambu County to be used at the newly built Wangige Level 4 Hospital which will initially be used as a Covid Isolation Centre. The donation amounts to Kshs. 1.4 million.

Water tanks and handwashing units donations

Broadway Group of Companies donated ten 2300 litre water tanks to Thika Water and Sewage Company (Thiwasco) for them to install hand washing facilities for the general public in Thika and its environs. The Group further donated multiple Handwashing Units to various government bodies and institutions for use by the general public around the country.

#SAA6 Campaign

In support of the SAA6 campaign that was started by the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) in conjunction with the Kenya Medical Association and National Nurses Association of Kenya, we want to thank all the frontline workers for the sacrifices they continue to make every day and especially during this pandemic. Your dedication, commitment and courage deserve our deepest gratitude and admiration. Your service to patients is saving countless lives and making a big difference.

Broadway SACCO

All Broadway Bakery members of staff interested in the cooperative movement are part of the recognized Broadway Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (SACCO).

The SACCO gives loans to members, as well as supporting various initiatives in the company. Broadway SACCO is very active in sports and is the reigning champion in the tug-of-war SACCO Championships organized by the Fundilima SACCO, an umbrella organization bringing together SACCOs in Thika.

The SACCO looks after the environment by taking care of trees inside and outside the bakery premises. In addition, it makes donation to various needy people in conjunction with Broadway Bakery.

Staff Welfare Kitchen

Broadway Bakery has constructed a fully equipped onsite kitchen for their staff and have provided nutritious daily catering at a subsidized rate.
